The ACLU of Oregon Annual Membership Meeting, featuring speaker
Rick Steves
"Travel as a Political Act - Ending marijuana prohibition in Oregon"

in the Historic McDonald Theatre on
Thursday, October 9, 2014
Co-hosted by The ACLU of Oregon and Yes on 91

All ages tickets for this general admission seated event are available for reservation now through the ACLU website. To guarantee entrance into the event, you must reserve these complimentary tickets in advance. However, tickets not yet picked up by 6:45 (15 minutes prior to the beginning of the event) the night-of will be released to the general public on a first-come-first-served/standby basis.

If not fully allocated/reserved in advance, tickets may also be available at the McDonald Theatre Box Office the day of the show, beginning at 5:30 pm.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. for the general public. The event will begin at 7 p.m.

Rick Steves is touring Oregon in support of Vote Yes on 91, the ballot measure to legalize, regulate and tax marijuana for adults over 21. You probably know him best from his radio and television shows on OPB. He also produces a syndicated column and revises more than 50 guidebooks a year from his hometown of Edmonds, WA.

In “Travel as a Political Act: Ending marijuana prohibition in Oregon,” Steves will share how travel has shown him how different societies tackle the same problems. Steves and the ACLU of Washington co-sponsored Washington’s successful 2012 ballot measure to regulate, legalize and tax marijuana.

“One thing I’ve learned in 30 years of travel is that treating marijuana as a crime does not work,” he said. “A better approach is to regulate it, legalize it and tax it. I’m an advocate for better policy, and that’s what Oregon will get once Measure 91 passes.”

The ACLU of Oregon is an endorser of YES on 91 and is cohosting the Rick Steves Oregon tour.

Comedian, actor and writer Nick Swardson may best be known as "that guy from the Adam Sandler movies," but he's actually got a successful comedy career of his very own. Starting out in improv but switching to stand-up a few years later, Swardson delivers high energy, incredibly silly comedy that often focuses on partying and sex. Though he often plays flamboyant characters, Swardson claims it's just an act -- and one that he's no longer interested in repeating.

When Foreverland took the stage for the first time one San Francisco night in June 2009, no one could have predicted that just two weeks later, Michael Jackson would pass away. But since that moment, Foreverland: The Electrifying 14-piece Tribute to Michael Jackson, has been leading a larger-than-life celebration of his musical legacy from coast to coast.

A different kind of tribute band, you won’t see any impersonations here. Instead, Foreverland simply aims to honor and do justice to the music and spirit of the King of Pop. Throughout this truly unforgettable performance, die-hard fans will relive their favorite MJ moments, and younger crowds will rediscover the amazing music that remains timeless.

The band has mesmerized audiences around the country with their one-of-a-kind performances of the music of Michael Jackson, and they continue to play to bigger and bigger crowds. Foreverland’s four dynamic vocalists, powerhouse rhythm section, and slamming horn section recreate hits like “I Want You Back,” “Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough,” “Smooth Criminal,” and “Thriller” from the Jackson 5 era through the end of Michael’s incredible career with energy, groove, and force.
